What You'll Learn
Creating Joyful Memories
We know the feeling: you want beautiful family portraits, but the thought of coordinating outfits, keeping the kids happy, and getting everyone to smile at the same time feels overwhelming.
At Staske Photography, we believe the session itself should be a joyful memory. Here are our top tips for a relaxed, stress-free experience.
1. Coordinate, Don't Match
Gone are the days of everyone wearing identical white shirts and jeans. Instead, choose a color palette of 3-4 complementary colors and mix textures, layers, and subtle patterns.
If mom wears a floral dress, pull colors from that pattern for the rest of the family's outfits. This creates a cohesive, modern look that feels natural.
2. Prepare the Kids (But Don't Pressure Them)
Talk to your kids about the session a few days in advance. Frame it as a fun activity rather than a chore. Tell them they are going to play, explore, and hang out with a new friend who has a camera.
Avoid threatening punishments or bribing them with treats for "good behavior" during the shoot—this often creates tension.
3. Embrace the Chaos
The best family photos are often the unposed, candid moments. If your toddler wants to run, we'll capture them running. If your baby is crying, a tender moment of mom comforting them can be incredibly beautiful.
Let go of the idea of perfection and allow your family's genuine dynamic to shine through.
4. Plan Around Nap and Snack Times
A hungry or tired child (or adult!) is not going to enjoy a photo session. Schedule your shoot for a time when everyone is typically well-rested and fed.
Bring along non-messy snacks and a favorite small toy just in case.
5. Trust Your Photographer
Our job is to guide you, find the best light, and capture the connection between you and your loved ones.
You don't need to worry about posing or telling the kids to look at the camera. Relax, focus on loving your family, and let us handle the rest.
